Using the search functionality

See how it's done on iOS

With the search function on iOS, we give you the ability to find the correct matching assets based on:

• whether the word appears in the title
• whether the word appears in the document and is a stemmed version of that word
• whether the word appears in the asset description
• whether the word is part of the URL for URL assets
• whether the text appears in the audio transcription of videos under one hour

Note: We support multiple languages, and words are appropriately matched to their language-specific stem, however for the video search functionality, please be aware this is currently only supported in English.

Importantly, our Showpad search will try to spell correctly any words. If you enter "select prmeium package", our engine will automatically offer to correct that to "select premium package".

We also highlight the search terms and the context in which they appear in your text, so when you are looking for exactly that quote you need during your meeting, we don't just highlight the search word in the text, but we expose the sentence (the context). You don't have to open the document to state that quote.

Showpad search starts with an autocomplete option that gives you suggestions as you type. If you want to search within any document (PDF, Office files), click the Advanced Search icon.

Note: When using Showpad without a connection, the search option only looks for content that was already downloaded locally on your device. Searching for text in files is also not available offline.

You can find the search option in the top-right corner of the app. When you're in the Home tab, search results will return results specifically for experience content.

When you're in the Coaching part of the app, search results will return Courses, Paths, and Pitches.

Searching keywords to find content

1. Tap the search icon on the top-right of the Present screen or when browsing one of your Experiences.
2. The search screen opens, and you can start typing to search for specific content. A search history is visible to quickly access previous searches.
   
3. Type a keyword. Your search results appear dynamically as you start typing. We give suggestions if spelling errors occur.
   
4. We also look for the search term inside files, including video transcriptions.

   Note: If the audio does not meet a certain threshold of quality, it will not be transcribed and, therefore, not searchable.

   

5. Share the results immediately via a link, email, or add them to a Collection.

Using Advanced Search to look for specific content

With Advanced Search, you can add filters and search for titles, exact phrases, or the type of content.

Note: Advanced Search is available when searching in the Experiences tab.

1. Tap the Advanced Search icon.
   
2. Searching with the Titles-Only filter will not show results found inside your documents. Only the titles of documents will be visible in the results. The Exact Phrase filter searches for exact phrases in titles and in the text of your documents.
   
3. You can select the file types you would like to display by tapping one or more file types.
   
4. If you want to filter based on tags, tap the available tag(s). You can select multiple tags to search for documents that have at least one of the selected tags.
   

Searching for words inside documents

Note: Searching for words within an Excel document on iOS is not supported.

To perform a search to find keywords inside documents, follow the steps described below.

1. Open the document in which you want to perform your search.
2. Tap the three dots and select Search File.
   
3. Enter a keyword in the search field. If you want to search for multiple keywords, enter them in the search field separated by a space (no commas or other symbols). Tap Search.
   
4. The search result list will display all pages in the document that contains your keyword(s), along with the number of times it was found. When using multiple keywords, you will see all pages where one of the keywords was found. The keyword is also highlighted on the result pages, and pages that contain your keyword(s) are outlined in yellow.

With the search function on our Android app, we give you the ability to find the correct matching documents based on:

• whether the word appears in the title
• whether the word appears in the document and is a stemmed version of that word. We support multiple languages so words are appropriately matched to their language-specific stem
• whether the word appears in the asset description

The algorithm the search uses to surface documents higher than others in the search results list works as follows. The order of the results will be:

1. Documents that have the search terms in the title and in the body of the text itself.
2. Documents that have the search term in the title.
3. Documents that have the search term in just the body of the document. And for this, documents that have the search term more than others will show up first.

Note: When using Showpad without a connection, the search option only looks for content that was already downloaded locally on your device. In addition, searching for text in documents is not available offline. Currently, search in video is only supported in English.

Searching for files

1. To start a search, tap the Search icon on the Home tab.
   
2. The search will look for your keyword in file names, folder names, tags, and Experience names, as well as text within documents and videos.

   Note: If the audio does not meet a certain quality threshold, it will not be transcribed and, therefore, not searchable.

   
3. You can filter the results based on certain file specifications: type, tag, or file type.
   
4. Select the type of document you'd like to see by checking off the type of assets you're searching for. You can select multiple filter types.
   
5. Filter your results based on (multiple) tags.
   
6. After you search for an asset, you can immediately share it or add it to a Collection directly from the search results by clicking the three dots next to the asset.
   

Searching for keywords inside documents

1. Open a text document and tap the three dots on the top right of the page.
   
2. You can search for one keyword or use an exact matching phrase. 
   
3. The keyword or phrase you're looking for will be highlighted.
   

See how it's done on the Windows Desktop app

With the search function on our Windows Desktop app, we give you the ability to find the correct matching content, Courses, Paths, and Pitches based on:

• whether the word appears in the title
• whether the word appears in the document and is a stemmed version of that word. We support multiple languages so words are appropriately matched to their language-specific stem
• whether the word appears in the asset description
• whether the word appears in the Course’s title, description, and sections within Courses
• whether the word is part of the URL for URL assets
• whether the text appears in the audio transcription of videos under one hour

You will also have the option to pre-check boxes of criteria on the left-hand side to find results quicker by type of content and matching tags.

Note: Video search functionality is currently only supported in English. If the audio does not meet a certain quality threshold, it will not be transcribed and, therefore, not searchable.

We also highlight the search terms and the context in which they appear in your text, so when you are looking for exactly that quote you need during your meeting, we don't just highlight the search word in the text, but we expose the full sentence, allowing for a more contextual understanding. The quote preview will appear without even opening the document.

You can make the initial choice of searching only within Coach or Content, depending on your search needs, by selecting All to the left of the search bar. It will automatically default to All when searching from the home page. If you are already in Coach or Content, it will default to whichever side of Showpad you are searching in.

Showpad search starts with an autocomplete option that gives you suggestions as you type. This works based on titles of content, Courses, Paths, and Pitches. You can select an asset from here or continue to the full search results by hitting enter or clicking the magnifying glass.

When you use the search bar, results will include words within any asset, Course, or document (PDF, Office files) beyond just the title.

You can filter the results by content type and tags and their corresponding categories. When you check off the different Tag boxes, the results will add all relevant content with any of the applicable tags, in this example, giving results that apply to Case Study or Finance. Selecting a Type will only show content with that particular type, for example, PowerPoint.

When you are searching for content while offline, your experience may be impacted. Offline search is limited to the local database. Showpad does not search in the content of the assets but will match with the title, file type, etc. You can filter your search results by type and tags (including tag categories) while offline.

The filters provided in general content search are extended to browsing through a Classic Experience. When you open a Classic Experience, you can see the filters on the left-hand side so you can quickly find content based on tags, tag categories, and file type. You are able to see detailed information on the assets when viewing the list, so it's easy to find the exact assets you're looking for. This information includes what Experiences the asset can be found in as well as the tags associated with it.
