What is Pitch IQ?
Mastery of new material takes practice. Pitch IQ ensures your sales team can apply what they’ve learned and build confidence through practice, role-plays, and sales coaching. By taking a more interactive approach to learning and feedback Pitch IQ courses allow for the creation of video/audio recordings, along with screen capture recordings to have learners demonstrate their mastery of a subject or task.
Knowing this, there are some additional considerations for your learners, as more elements (extensions, webcams, microphones) are involved in the submission process compared to a standard web browser lesson/quiz. Reflecting back on common scenarios faced by learners taking Pitch IQ courses, the following sections should help minimize stress and potential blockers your learners might face when taking their first Pitch IQ course.
Tips for your IT team
Video recording and uploading can be a resource heavy task for a computer, and network with many places in a system where camera/microphone access can be blocked (sometimes outside the control of your users). Running through some tests scenarios ahead of time should help to minimize the impact to your end users.
- Google Chrome is the preferred browser for Pitch IQ course and required for screen capture courses
- Users will need permissions on their devices to install browser extensions into Chrome (screen capture courses leverage the Screencastify extension - https://www.screencastify.com/)
- Users will need access to both a camera and microphone on their device - we recommend confirming drivers are installed/updated and microphone/webcam is enabled on their device
- Check users are running the latest release of their respective web browser
- Allow 3rd party cookies in your users’ browsers
- Allow Flash and check it is enabled for users
- Ensure the camera and microphone is enabled and accessible by both their OS and web browser they are accessing from:

- Allow users to disable VPN - VPN connections can introduce additional overhead to the upload process. Giving users the option to disconnect from a VPN can improve their recording/upload experience.
- Ensure access to strong Wifi or internet connection, we also recommend having users access through a business connection as many home ISPs will throttle/block large file uploads.
Tips for Admins
Live video and screen capture recordings can be a great way to determine the knowledge retention of a learner or check for current abilities. These can also be stressful for a user when something outside of their control goes wrong in the creation process. Because of this we have come up with some recommendations to help make your Pitch IQ less stressful and more successful.
- Work with your IT team to ensure users’ devices have the correct accessories installed (camera and microphone) and have the permissions to install browser extensions on their device (as screen capture pitch IQs utilize Screencastify for recording)
- Roll out the first Pitch IQ as an icebreaker to your learners. Something short and fun will help you determine if there are any widespread configuration issues with your learners that will need to be addressed, while also making it less stressful as this is not tied to a specific certification.
- We recommended setting the pitch length recording to 15 minutes or fewer. This helps focus the course on a specific topic and helps to reduce issues encountered by some users when uploading long/large video files.
- Place instructions to record/tips on settings in the course’s Lesson (e.g. “guide to recording your pitch”) or PitchIQ description so they know how to prepare for their recording. You could also link these tips to a separate site via a Checklist task, for customers that want more control over the content’s look and feel, or if it’s related to additional steps within a certification course or series of courses
Tips for Learners
Below are some tips and guidelines to make sure that video submission runs as smoothly as possible. The longer a video is the more important these can become as your computer can be unsure of what to prioritize.
- Use the latest version of Google Chrome as your browser for recording
- Close out of all unnecessary applications and tabs (Excel, Spotify, Outlook, etc.).
- If possible, connect via your company’s network as some home internet providers can throttle or block large file uploads, such as those created by recording videos.
- Create a short (30 seconds or so) test Pitch to make sure that your sound and/or video is working.
- Save this test Pitch as a draft. This process is the same as submitting and transcoding to the servers and should let you know if you may run into issues before you try and record your pitch.
- Once the draft is saved, listen to the playback to make sure that there are no issues with the audio or video of the recording.
- When you have finished recording your actual pitch, do not close out the tab where the video is being uploaded, as that can interrupt the uploading process. Once complete, the green progress bar disappears and you will see a checkbox that indicates it has uploaded successfully
- If using Screencastify to record your session and want to launch your presentation in full screen mode, please select the “entire desktop” option, as this will grant ScreenCastify permissions to see presentations in full screen mode.
