Merging tags on Showpad assets

It's not uncommon to start off your content journey with simple asset tags, only to realize later on you need to switch up your tag structure a bit as your content library grows and becomes more sophisticated. While there is no official process to merge tags within Showpad, here is an easy way to manage tag updates.

To get started, rename one of the tags you want to merge with a prefix such as "-old" or "-deprecated" - we'll use old here because it's shorter! This will be the tag you will remove at the end of the process. 

In the Library, filter the content with the old tag, then add the new or actual tag to all applicable assets. Do this in bulk by selecting all filtered assets, then clicking Edit and adding the tag. All applicable assets should now have the old tag and the new tag.

Ensure you change any Smart Folders or other smart asset blocks that may have contained the old tag to the new tag. To do so, navigate to the channel containing the Smart Folder, click Edit, then Edit Contained Smart Folders. Add the new tag and Remove the old tag.

Once you've updated all the applicable Experiences, you can safely delete the old tag. Merge successful!
