Editing and importing Google Slides
Showpad is bringing you and your team a new capability to import and edit Google Slides. Whether within your Google Drive or via Showpad, this new Web app feature will allow you to access and collaborate on presentations with ease. It’s one more way we are making sales enablement a breeze for you and your colleagues.
The ability to link your Google Drive, import slides to Showpad and edit them will soon be here. This article will briefly walk you through how it will work and look and answer some questions ahead of time.
Note: Permissions for editing Google Slides are handled by the admin by enabling the Can Be Personalized option. This setting is off by default.
Your Google Drive in Showpad
When connecting for the first time, all you need are a Showpad account and a shared or personal Google account. You can add Google Slides by logging into Showpad and navigating to Content, My Files, then clicking Add.
In the upcoming release, a third option will appear when you add content: Add From Google Drive.
The following video gives you an overview of what changes are coming your way, as well as the continued article below.
Processing for seamless quality
Processing happens in two steps. First, the slide is imported from Google. Next, it is optimized for a smooth display on Showpad. You will see a box in the lower right-hand corner of your screen as your file is imported that will let you know when it’s done.
For the quickest processing time, edit in Google Slides first, then head to Showpad to see the change. It is possible to edit within Showpad as well via the redirect to Google.
When a user edits within Showpad, the changes will be auto-synced within the presentation. You may notice those changes being imported and processed again directly after the change happens. These expanded options to edit inside Showpad or on Google Drive will make it easy for you to design the best presentations for your prospects.
Working with embedded media and entertaining gifs
When embedding video in your Google Slides for usage in Showpad, the video won’t play after it was processed. Clicking a video in a Google Slide links to the video file in Google Drive. Viewers might not have access to this drive and won’t see the video.
If you want to work with videos, an option can be to link to a public YouTube video and embed those inside your Google Slides. You also have the option to grant them access to the Google Drive video separately.
GIFs will keep working after the slide is optimized by Showpad. There’s no need to remove the confetti shower GIF at the end of your Google Slides.
Note: By enabling the download option when sharing Google Slides, receivers can download the presentation as a PPTX file. GIFs also work in these downloaded files, videos won’t work unless it links to a publicly available source. Presenter notes you added in Google Slides are also visible in the PPTX file.
So happy (editing!) together
You can choose to create a copy of one of your own files you wish to edit or to make changes on the original slides directly. It can be beneficial to make a copy so that the original is preserved just in case.
Note: Selecting multiple categories will include assets that fall into any of the selected groups. For example, choosing Category A and Category B would show results that fall into either of those options, not ones that match both exclusively.
After you make your selection, you will be redirected to the Google Slide editor. When collaborating with others on your team, you will be able to see their edits within Google Slides in real time.
Your changes and those made by others will appear in Showpad via a notification in the banner above your slide. Press the circling arrows button to sync the latest changes and they will appear as soon as they process.
When a change is made in Google Slides, the edits will appear in Showpad shortly after. Team members who have that slide show in their My Files will be prompted to refresh the file after a change is made.
All of these upcoming features allow you and your team to collaborate on personal and Marketing-provided Google Slides to create memorable, creative presentations. With this exciting Summer Release addition, we continue working to provide you a seamless integration experience with Google Drive, so you and your teams continue to successfully sell with the tools you need.
